Technology for All Learners

Hello Everyone! Welcome to 4th grade! I am thrilled for year-long journey with you and your student(s). I truly believe it takes a community to raise our students! I will use Google Classroom and Remind App to relay important dates and information, post our classroom photos, student’s work and also provide at home learning opportunities. I am looking forward to an amazing year! If you would like to keep up on our day to day classroom excitement, please follow up our class on Google Classroom. It is my goal this year to, not only give your child the best academic and social 4th-grade experience, but to also create a warm classroom community for caregivers. I.               What is the need?             I will be a 4 th grade writing reading teacher next academic school year. It is truly remarkable to see a child’s growth in writing over the course of a school year. Students build stamina throughout the school year writing diverse pieces. Students are able to stay focused on the task and provide great and descriptive detail in their pieces. Working in a diverse school system, there are many students who have a learning disability and many students whose primary language is not English. What is the need?  One day when I was substituting many students were raising their hands and I was not sure who to go see first. Some students would not raise their hand at all and some students would just say I need help without asking any specific question. The need was to find an organized way in which students could wait their turn while understanding when their turn was to ask for help and be able to ask a specific question. Recently, I discovered a resource called ClassroomQue. This tool is great for students who don’t usually raise their hand. What is the need?  When hearing the word "assessment," one thinks exams and that there are no do-overs if you make a mistake. For many, this is how we are taught as well as how it feels to take state-mandated achievement tests each. This is not the only data that sums up the student’s learning over the school year. Assessments are completely different from before and today is one of the most powerful tools to impact students, it allows us to think Where am I going? Where am I now? How can I close the gap?   I had connected James Yanuzzelli, a Schoology Representative and had the opportunity to talk with him about the use of assessments in Schoology. The global connection resource that I had discovered is so much more than just a pen pal, it is an exchange between classes that connects one another to build empathy between individuals, cultures, traditions and much more. Kind Healthy snack Founder and CEO mission were to create diversity, inclusion, and empathy to be an important character trait. He launched Empatico, a digital platform that has given classrooms the opportunity to learn from one another. I learned about this resource from Jacqui Murray, a technology teacher that has published hundreds of teacher’s resources on her blog What is the need?  What is needed for Empatico is a computer with a camera, engaged and excited students who are willing to participate and collaborate with other students to solve problems of today, tomorrow and the future.
